Deloraine-Winchester Historical Society's logo was designed by local artist & photographer Scott Smith. It depicts the stone vault at Old Deloraine, constructed in 1884, the last remaining physical reminder of the original townsite. The wheat heads remind us that Deloraine was 'built on wheat', and the colours behind the vault that our prairies are famous for fabulous sunsets. The crossed feathers and the Metis sash in the infinity symbol pay tribute to the nations who called this land home before modern day settlement, a reminder that the land has a history that extends far beyond the last 150 years. 

Deloraine-Winchester Historical Society (DWHS) was formed by a small group of interested citizens in January 2020. Our mandate is to discover, preserve and highlight the history of Deloraine-Winchester Municipality and to promote and share those discoveries with residents and visitors alike. We also endeavor to bring people together in celebration of our heritage by showcasing a guest speaker at our spring Annual General Meeting and by hosting a Canada Day ‘Party in the Park’ every July 1st.

In 2025 we opened an Archives and display building in “The Studio” at 207 North Railway Ave E. Constructed in 1930 for the Manitoba Telephone System, the building has also been a private home, an accounting office and an art studio. In fact, we acquired our home through the generosity of John Hasselfield; who donated the building to us in memory of the late Susan Howe Hasselfield, a talented artist. The building is named in her memory.

Work on the archives is ongoing but The Studio holds several permanent displays, and the Society puts the ‘Spotlight On......’ a different theme every year. The temporary displays are showcased from Victoria Day weekend (May) through Labour Day (Sept). Shorter term, more seasonal displays are frequently added into the mix throughout the year, keeping the displays fresh and making return trips to visit us a must.
